ACC Participates in Historic Community Fundraiser
Advanced Chemical Company participated on Saturday, June 10th, in the 52nd Annual “Gaspee Day’s 5k Road Race/Walk”, the oldest foot race in Rhode Island’s history.
Wearing custom race shirts in which the Advanced Chemical Company logo was transformed to include red, white, and blue, employees of Advanced Chemical Company ran and walked the approximate 3.2-mile-long course, which navigates participants through historic Pawtuxet Village in Warwick, Rhode Island.
Human Resource Leader, RozLynn Perez, said “as a company located in Warwick and situated within Pawtuxet Village’s Industrial Park, we felt it was extremely necessary to participate in this event for multiple reasons. Primarily, the road race which is held each year serves as a fundraiser for the Gaspee Day’s Committee; money raised goes directly towards funding the parade, arts and crafts festival, and fireworks display. It was a great cause to be associated with, and we look forward to participating next year”.
Gaspee Days is a culmination of events spanning over four weeks, beginning with the arts and crafts festival on Memorial Day weekend, and concludes with the road race and parade. Gaspee Days is a celebration of American colonists who lived in Pawtuxet Village and revolted against the British, by rowing out into Narragansett Bay on a small boat, and setting the British fleet “H.M.S. Gaspee” on fire.
RozLynn Perez added “by participating in this road race, we not only were able to provide financial assistance to a great community event, but we were able to promote health and wellness within the workplace. Many employees trained for the road race during the months leading up to the event; this generated some internal competition, comradery, and subsequently, placed an emphasis on sparking healthy life styles both inside and outside of Advanced Chemical Company.”
